VFW Post 11447: September 2011 Meeting Minutes

OPENING CEREMONIES: Commander Doty called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 14 Sep.  Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Thirteen Post 11447 members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS:The Roll Call was taken by Adjutant Burnett.  Ten Officers were present, three officers were absent and one excused.

NEW RECRUITS: One new recruit. Adjutant introduce new recruit Larry Purdy.  Larry is a submarine sailor and Vietnam vet. He is fully qualified for membership. Adjutant made a motion for the membership to approve his application, seconded by JVC Middleton.  Membership was approved. 

DISTINGUISHED GUESTS: None

MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted.  The adjutant said that a copy of the minutes were posted on the bulletin board and sent to members via email. The minutes are also available on the website www.vfw11447.org.  No changes were made.  The Adjutant made the motion to accept the minutes as written, seconded by Comrade Best, motion carried.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster: QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as presented, seconded by Comrade Middleton, motion carried. The audit was conducted on 14 Sep.  The report is on file, if anyone wants to see the entire report, contact the QM.

At last meeting, the QM made a motion which was approved for a loan of $1800 from Building Fund to help meet a shortage in rent available for upcoming year (have to pay 12 months in advance).  Only $952 was required as the Commander was able to renew for P13000 a month vice P16000.  Repayment of loan should start in September.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: Service Officer could not attend as he is busy at the RAO.

SURGEON'S REPORT: Will meet with the dentists today to discuss Dental issues for the upcoming Medical/Dental Outreach.

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS: Got an email from Jose Alvarez he is doing okay but two children of his niece were killed in an auto accident on 12 Sep.  Jimmy Harman is in the hospital (died Saturday morning 17 Sep).  Ray Smith is in Gordon Hospital.

COMMANDER CALLED FOR COMMITTEE REPORTS:

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: QM Burnett gave the report. National has published the new memstats for 2011-2012.

The two new Life Members that were recruited this term are included in the life figure of 354.

CofA: Commander said that the dates for the Convention are 11-14 June. 

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Carmen Hendricks has requested funds to pay school tuition. Tuition cost is P20,402 ($486).  Members Doty and Fred McClure have pay their share for kids they sponsor in the program. QM will give her the funds during the week of 18 Sep.

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: P310 was collected at the meeting.

BUILDING COMMITTEE: We have a part time maintenance man, who is on call.

BEACH BASH COMMITTEE: Meeting scheduled for next week.

PUP TENT 11: Seam Squirrel Best said that they had a good Scratch. Initial initiation was held for new Cootie Ron Middleton, torture to continue at next Scratch.

POST HOUSE COMMITTEE: Comrade Mike Best gave the report. The Commander and QM along with PHC members had a meeting prior to the Post meeting.  The Canteen Profit and Loss Statement was reviewed and a change made.  Statement final monthly profit was P63386 which includes the inventory.  The members reviewed one applicant for Canteen Manager. Interview will be held on 19 Sep.  Copy of 2006 Canteen By-Laws was given to committee members for review and update.

VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN: Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

NEW BUSINESS

Adjutant made a motion for the Post to purchase remaining Post 4 American Legion Raffle tickets for POW/MIA Day.  Currently 11 books remain at the cost of P250 each (P2750/$65). Seconded by Comrade Middleton. Approved.  (Note: 6 books for P1500 were purchased).

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

VFW Dept of the Pacific Raffle Tickets still available.  The cost is $10 for one ticket (P500):

  • First Prize $5000
  • Second Prize $2500
  • Third Prize $1000
  • Fourth Prize (5 winners) $500
  • Fifth Prize (10 winners) $250
  • Consolation Prize (25 winners) $100
Prizes may vary-prize money based on 4000 tickets being sold.  Raffle will be held at the Dept CofA in December being held in Angeles City.

Raffle Tickets for the 20th Annual Chili-Cook Off to be held in Nov at Post 9892 in La Union are on sale cost is P300 per book and prizes are First Place P15,000 ($357); second P8,000; third P4,000; forth P2,000 and fifth P1,000.  Drawing is on the 26 of Nov, winners will be listed on website www.vfw9892.com.

Senior Vice Commander Haulet presented the second place Trophy that his sponsored team representing Post 11447 won at the recently completed Subic Basketball Tournament.

Fifty/fifty: Comrade "Ski" Malkovich won the 50/50 raffle.  P1100 was collected. Ski donated his winnings to the Post to whatever fund most in need.  Thank you Ski.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 1050 hours.  The next GMM will be held on 12 Oct at 1000 hours at the Post Home.
