VFW Post 11447: October 2007 Meeting Minutes

Post Commander Alvarez called the meeting to order at 1000 on Wednesday, 10 Oct 2007.

There were 26 members in attendance.

Chaplain Hommel gave the opening prayer.

Commander led attendees in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and Section 3 of the Congressional Charter.

The Roll Call was taken by the Adjutant. All present except Advocate Jim Correll who was excused.

Commander called for new recruits:
None

Commander called for distinguished guests:
None

Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted:
The Adjutant reported they had and no comments or changes made. Comrade Saunders made the motion to accept the minutes as posted, seconded by Comrade Gorton. Carried.

Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:
QM Burnett presented the report. Trustees conducted an audited of QM records on 8 Oct.  Trustee Koeppen made the motion to accept the report as presented, seconded by Comrade Best.  Carried. The report is on file at the Post home, if anyone wants to see the report contact the Quartermaster.

Commander called for the Service Officer’s report:
Commander Alvarez said that Gene Gann’s remains are at his residence on Rizal St. Barretto.  Gene passed away 10 p.m on the 9th.  No death report yet, but probably died from pneumonia.  Gene just got out of the hospital a few days ago.

Commander called for the Surgeon's report:
Surgeon Nirza said that the Medical/Dental Outreach went well with 133 medical patients and 70 dental.  He thanked all who participated.

Commander asked if there was a member or family member in distress:
None

Commander called for Committee reports:

Post Home Committee Report:
Post Home Committee:  PHC Chairman Cox reported.   Highlights of report:

  • PHC members conducted canteen inventory and count of daily draw chips on 30 Sep.
  • Canteen records and funds were audited by Trustees on 8 Oct. PHC reviewed canteen records and found them to be in good order.
  • Canteen manager reported bar and kitchen sales are up for the month. All bills have been paid except the electric which will be paid soon.

Membership Committee:
Adjutant gave the report. Life membership stands at 366, 3 new members, 10 continuous and 1 reinstated for a percentage of 89.8.  Annual members should renew before the end of November to help us reach 100% for the CofA in December.  If we reach 100% we could receive one free life membership.  The free membership is given to a winner from a draw of our annual members who are paid up.

Buddy Poppy Chairman:
Chaplain Hommel reported P610 ($13.86) was collected for the Relief Fund.

Seam Squirrel Report:
The scratch on 1 Oct went well.  Comrade Mike Best was initiated into the Pup Ten.  He also said that the Cooties are putting in a team for the FRA Chili Cook-off on 20 Oct. Also, reminded everyone about donations for Thanksgiving dinner.  The dance/special dinner on Sunday, 7 Oct went well, lot of people showed and all had a good time.  Canteen made a nice profit.

Building Committee:
Comrade Doty contacted Tom Dryden about his building.  His price of P15 million ($340,000) was beyond our reach. No reply yet from current owners of Post home.

C of A :
Comrade Burnett is continuing to work on the CofA. 

Beach Bash: : JVC said that the first meeting was held and a good turn-out

Chaplain Hommel led the membership in reciting the National Home Prayer.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

- None

NEW BUSINESS

-  The Commander asked for nominations for JVC.  Comrade Wayne Gordon was nominated, he accepted the nomination.  Comrade Mike Best was also nominated and accepted the nomination.  Nominations were closed and new nominations and vote will be conducted on 31 Oct at a Special Meeting at 10a.m.

- Adjutant read a letter from SBMA asking for donations for the Dragon Boat Races to be held 13 and 14 Oct.  Motion was made to donate P1000 2nd by Comrade Sullivan.  During discussion motion was change to donate P2000.  Not carried.  No donation to SBMA.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

- Adjutant said that he has raffle tickets from Post 2485 and La Union for sale which are at the bar.  

- Comrade Sullivan said that the 1st Annual Fish Fry sponsored by the Cooties went well despite the bad weather.

- 50/50 Raffle was won by Comrade Ed Spears .  P1800 ($41) was collected, P900 to the Post Bldg Fund and P900 to Ed. 

Chaplain Hommel gave the Closing Prayer.

Commander adjourned the meeting at 10:45. Next Regular meeting will be held at the Post Home at 10:00, Wednesday 14, 2007.
