VFW Post 11447: November 2007 Meeting Minutes

Post Commander Alvarez called the meeting to order at 1000 on Wednesday, 14 Nov 2007.

There were 21 members in attendance.

Chaplain Hommel gave the opening prayer.

Commander led attendees in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and Section 3 of the Congressional Charter.

The Roll Call was taken by the Adjutant. All present except Advocate Jim Correll who was excused, Surgeon Nirza and Trustee Steakley absent.

Commander called for new recruits:
None

Commander called for distinguished guests:
None

Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted:
The Adjutant reported they had and no comments or changes made. Comrade Doty made the motion to accept the minutes as posted, seconded by SVC Hendricks. Carried.

Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:
QM Burnett presented the report. Trustees conducted an audited of QM records on 5 Nov. QM said that the disbursement of $2500 from Building Fund was given to Lee Andersen to pay off the loan he gave us to buy the safes. Post made a profit of nearly $600 from safe sales. The 13th month payment is due to paid employees on the 15th of Dec. Canteen does not have the funds right now, but after the CofA they should be able to pay it. Comrade Boruff made the motion to accept the report as presented, seconded by SVC. Carried. The report is on file at the Post home, if anyone wants to see the report contact the Quartermaster.

Surgeon Nirza absent.

Commander asked if there was a member or family member in distress:
RAO director Chester Gross is hospitalized.

Post Home Committee Report:
PHC Chairman Cox reported.   Highlights of report:

  • PHC members conducted canteen inventory and count of daily draw chips on 31 Oct.
  • Canteen records and funds were audited by Trustees on 5 Nov.  PHC reviewed canteen records and found them to be in good order.
  • Canteen manager reported bar and kitchen sales are up for the month. All bills have been paid.
  • There will be new hours for the Canteen kitchen effective 1 Dec.  Kitchen hours will be from 6am to 6pm.  Bar hours will remain 6am to 7am.
  • Thanksgiving.  Eleven turkeys and 4 hams have been donated for dinner, other items and cash has also been donated. Please come to the Post home for dinner on Thanksgiving Day.

Membership Committee:
SVC gave the report. Life membership stands at 367, 4 new members, 13 continuous and 1 reinstated for a percentage of 91.02.  Two new members (1 life and 1 annual) in the mail to National.  We currently have 46 unpaid annual members, need 37 of them to renew so we can reach 100%. Annual members should renew before the end of November to help us reach 100% for the CofA in December.  If we reach 100% we will receive one free life membership.  The free membership is given to a winner from a draw of our annual members who are paid up. QM will post names of unpaid members on bulletin board so that members who might see some of them can remind them about their dues.

Amerasian Scholarship Committee:
SVC said that a sign up list for donations to the Scholarship kids Christmas party is posted.  Donors can either purchase a present for a child or give P300 to him or Carmen.  Just write you name on the list beside the name of a child.

Buddy Poppy Chairman:
Chaplain Hommel reported P360 ($8.37) was collected for the Relief Fund.

Seam Squirrel Report:
The Scratch following the District meeting in Angeles City at Post 2485 went well.  Pup Tent 11 was well represented.    The Social afterward was a success, all had fun. There are three applications for membership in Pup Tent but will be presented to General Membership in January.

Web Master:
Fred McClure doing a good job forwarding inquiries made to the Website.  Whey the web guy is doing a great job doing updates.  Still have someway to go on photos and updating  departed comrades and building fund donators.  Should be completed this month. 

Building Committee:
Adjutant will send email again to the owners.  Will have to get serious, starting in Dec to find another place as we only have until Aug on current lease.

C of A :
Comrade Burnett is continuing to work on the CofA.  Register if you are going to attend any function.

Beach Bash: SVC said that the next meeting is 20 Nov.  Need volunteers to do solicitation.

Comrade Hommel led the membership in reciting the National Home Prayer.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

-  None

NEW BUSINESS

-  A used (but in good condition) bicycle was donated by the Marines who made port call at Subic.  Commander asked if anyone would like to make a motion on what to do with it.  Comrade Best made motion for the bike to be raffle off at the Beach Bash, seconded by Comrade Koeppen.  During discussion it was decided to raffle it at the Beach Bash, each ticket would cost P50.  Carried.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

- Adjutant read the list of winners from the Veterans Day raffle at Post 2485. Will be posted on bulletin board. 

- 50/50 Raffle was won by Comrade OB .  P2300 ($53) was collected, P1150 to the Post Bldg Fund and P900 to OB.   OB donated his to the General Fund.    

Comrade Hommel gave the Closing Prayer.

Commander adjourned the meeting at 10:45. Next Regular meeting will be held at the Post Home at 10:00, Wednesday 12 Dec 2007.
