VFW Post 11447: June 2010 Meeting Minutes

Post Commander called the meeting to order at 1000 on Wednesday, 9 June 2010.

There were 18 members in attendance.

Comrade Phillips gave the opening prayer.

Commander led attendees in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and Section 3 of the Congressional Charter.

The Roll Call was taken by Comrade Soper. All present except Chaplain Richmond who was absent.  

Commander called for new recruits:
None

Commander called for distinguished guests:
None

Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted:
The Minutes were sent out to all members with an e-mail address on file. Comrade Soper made the motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Comrade Doty, Carried  Minutes will now be posted on our bulletin board at Mangos in addition to the copy being sent out electronically.

Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:
QM Burnett presented the report.  Comrade Doty made the motion to accept the report as presented, seconded by Comrade Soper, Carried. The audit was conducted on 9 June 2010.  The report is on file, if anyone wants to see the report, contact the Quartermaster.

Commander called for the Service Officer's report:
Commander reported that Comrade Alvarez is doing better. Rooster was in the hospital for a week and is now out but his prognosis is not that good. Comrade Tyler may be going to the VA hospital in Texas for back operations. Comrade Gesellschap is out of the hospital but is having problems with finances and contacting the VA.  SVC Doty has gotten in touch with Mr. John Skelly at the VA and a representative is scheduled to meet with him next week.

Commander called for the Surgeon's report:

Commander asked if there was a member or family member in distress:
Comrade Doty reported that Comrade Milward needs 4 units of A- blood.  If anyone can donate it will be greatly appreciated.

Commander called for Committee reports:

Membership Committee:
QM Burnett gave the report gave the report. Life membership stands at 373, 7 new members, 23 continuous and 3 reinstated Total 406 for a percentage of 98.06%.

We need 8 continuous members to renew to get us up to 100

PHC Report:

Audit and Reviews: 
QM records were audited on 9 June. No discrepancies were noted. A property inventory and audit were presented to incoming Commander Doty, and he is satisfied that all property and funds are properly reported

Amerasian Scholarship Committee:
School is starting on 15 June. School supplies will be distributed on 14 June

Buddy Poppy Chairman:
Comrade Burnett reported that P590 had been collected at the meeting.

Still searching for a place with a suitable lease.

Commander led the membership in reciting the National Home Prayer.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Commander is looking to submit a bid for the Department of the Pacific Convention. In support of this bid we will need numerous volunteers to help Comrade Doty. This years Convention has been moved from Thailand to Angeles City because of the recent unrest in Thailand.

Next Beach Bash meeting will be held in July

Medical outreach mission is conducting a turnover from Comrade Koeppen to Comrade Storment we are looking for donations of medicine in addition to the loaning of extension cords and electric fans.  Tentative location is the covered court in Barretto.  Outreach mission will take place on the last Sunday in Sept.

The July 4th celebration will be held on the beach area behind Mangos rain or shine.  We have plenty of covered areas and the VFW has sufficient tents. Comrade Storment made a motion to borrow 15,000 pesos from the general fund to purchase the meat for this event.  Motion was seconded by Comrade Doty and carried. 

QM reported that a total of 237 Raffle ticket books have been sold so far, this is way below our expectations this close to the fourth.  However we have not received any ticket books from the various organizations selling books for us. Of the 237 books sold, 130 have been purchased by non-VFW/POST members.  That means that only 107 have been purchased by post members.  Out of this 107, five members purchased 64 BOOKS, leaving only 43 books purchased by the rest of the membership. Out of country members have purchased over 15 books, thank you.

NEW BUSINESS
QM made a motion on our proposed budget for next year.  Motion was seconded by Comrade Doty, discussion was made that we need to make provision for possibility of Fil Am raffle being short and that we might need insurance to cover a possible post home.  Motion carried

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER
QM has raffle tickets for sale see him after the meeting. (only one member bought tickets)

Comrade Storment said that if anyone has dishes of food that they would like to donate please see Comrade Gallant or himself. (or sign up on the new bulletin board in the hallway at Mangos)

Comrade Baldwin won the 50/50 raffle P1800 was collected. P900 to the winner, P900 to the Post.  

Comrade Phillips gave the Closing Prayer.

Commander adjourned the meeting at 11:00. Next regular meeting will be held at Mangos in Keith’s place (Former Rock Lobster Room) at: 10:00, Wednesday 14 July 2010
