VFW Post 11447: February 2010 Meeting Minutes

Post Commander called the meeting to order at 1000 on Wednesday, 17 February 2010.

There were 20 members in attendance and 1 guest.

Comrade Richmond gave the opening prayer.

Commander led attendees in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and Section 3 of the Congressional Charter.

The Roll Call was taken by Comrade Soper. All present except Trustee Steakley who was excused.

Commander called for new recruits:
None

Commander called for distinguished guests:
Post Commander 10122 Frank Chupko from the Great State of New Jersey was introduced.

Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted:
The Minutes were sent out to all members with an e-mail address on file. Comrade Soper made the motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Comrade Doty. Approved

Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:
QM Burnett presented the report. Comrade Soper made the motion to accept the report as audited, seconded by Comrade Best. Carried. The report is on file at the Post home, if anyone wants to see the report, contact the Quartermaster. The Report was audited on 17 Feb, 2010

Commander called for the Service Officer's report:
Comrade Doty reported that Comrade Osborn has passed away. Comrade Mosher has passed away and needs to pay a bill of P22,000 to get the death certificate from doctor and burial at Clark. A funeral service for Comrade Mosher is scheduled for 1000 on Thurs 25 Feb 2010 at Clark cemetery. Commander commented that the Post CANNOT pay medical expenses or burial expenses for members. We “passed the hat†and collected P4200 in donations to help the family.

Commander asked if there was a member or family member in distress:
Commander stated that Comrade JB is in need of going to hospital again. Family is in dire straits.

Commander called for Committee reports:

Membership Committee:
Adjutant Doty gave the report gave the report. Life membership stands at 371, 6 new members, 22 continuous and 3 reinstated Total 402 for a percentage of 97.1%.

QM reported we have three Proposed new members:

  1. Michael O. Weeks, Navy Vet, served Vietnam area 1968 to 70
  2. Scott E. Kaylor, Army/Navy Vet, Vietnam 1971, also has Navy Expeditionary Medal
  3. Alvin C. Butler, Navy Vet, Korea/Vietnam, 1951-1962 Korea Service Medal, Navy Exp       Medal

QM Burnett read the qualifications and names of the proposed members to the membership. QM Burnett stated that all members are qualified for membership and made motion that they be approved for membership in the Post, motion seconded and approved.

All three members were recruited by Pete Laserinko in Shelton, WA. 

We need 12 continuous members to renew to get us up to 100%.

Comrade Richmond reported that P320 had been collected at the meeting and 1000 at the Beach Bash.

Seam Squirrel Report:
Comrade Phillips Reported: The MOC Scratch was rescheduled from the 4th until the 18th, due to the lack of a quorum.

Still in search of new Post Home.

Chaplain led the membership in reciting the National Home Prayer.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Commander called for nomination for JVC, and Surgeons post, none were forthcoming.

NEW BUSINESS
Commander requested that anyone wishing to serve as Post Service Officer see him at soon as possible to discuss what the job entails. Members need to ensure that their wills are in order. There have been too many incidents recently when a member has checked out leaving those dependent on him with nothing. That is not a good way to carry on business. Get your personal affairs in order so that your loved ones are taken care of.

QM Burnett advised the members that all personnel who are members of the RAO have until 5 March to renew their membership or their box will be closed and mail "returned to Sender". If you are not sure of your status check with the secretary at the RAO.

Members without a valid address probably did not receive a renewal notice from National. Dues can be paid to the QM or in his absence the Commander, Vice Commander or Adjutant. Dues this year has increased to $40 due to increase in Department portion of the dues. Can be paid by dollar, check or Peso (P1840). Make checks made payable to “VFW Post 11447â€

Now is the time to support the FRALICS raffle and American Legion 123 see QM for raffle tickets

Thanks to all who supported the Beach Bash, especially the volunteers who gave their time and effort.

50/50 Raffles at the Beach Bash were won by Comrades Soper, Best and one unidentified female. Comrade Doty won the 50/50 raffle P2000 was collected. P1000 to the winner, 1000 to the Post. Comrade Doty donated his winnings to the Relief Fund. Thank you Comrade Doty

Chaplain gave the Closing Prayer.

Commander adjourned the meeting at 11:05. Next regular meeting will be held at Mangos in the Rock Lobster room at: 10:00, Wednesday 10 Mar 2010
