VFW Post 11447: February 2008 Meeting Minutes

Post Commander Alvarez called the meeting to order at 1000 on Wednesday, 13 February 2008.

There were 20 members in attendance and no guests.

Chaplain Hommel gave the opening prayer.

Commander led attendees in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and Section 3 of the Congressional Charter.

The Roll Call was taken by the Adjutant. All present except Advocate Jim Correll and PHC Member “OB” O’Briant who were excused.

Commander called for new recruits:
None

Commander called for distinguished guests:
None

Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted:
The Adjutant reported they had and no comments or changes made. Comrade Gordon made the motion to accept the minutes as posted, seconded by Comrade Boruff. Carried.

Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:
QM Burnett presented the report. Trustees conducted an audit of QM records on 5 February.  No discrepancies found.  Comrade Boruff made the motion to accept the report as presented, seconded by Comrade Gordon.  Carried. The report is on file at the Post home, if anyone wants to see the report contact the Quartermaster.

Commander called for the Service Officer’s report:
Life Member Chester Gross passed away on 8 Feb. (Graveside services were held on 14 Feb.)

Past Commander “Sandy” Saunders is now improving, He will undergo additional surgery in about 2 months.

Commander asked if there was a member or family member in distress:
Non-Member Ray Kozosinski (sp) has been house-bound for two years and is not getting any visitors. He lives in Iba. If anyone knows this person, please give him a visit. He is a member of the FRA.

The widow of Gene Gann is having trouble getting money from the bank. Service Officer Alvarez asked for her to contact him. He will assist.

Commander called for Committee reports:

PHC Report:
1. Post Home Committee:  PHC Chairman Cox reported.  
Meeting was called to order at 0900 on 11 Feb. by Chairman Cox.  The following members were present: Commander Alvarez, QM Burnett, Chairman Cox, PHC Members Best, PHC Member Melvin “OB” O’Briant was excused. Buzz Bronson, Fain Boruff, Dennis Doty and Canteen Manager Cora

Audits and Reviews: 

  • PHC Members Mike Best and RC Cox conducted Post canteen end of the month inventory and daily chips on 31 Jan.  All 480 chips were accounted for.
  • Canteen records and funds were audited by the Trustees on 5 Feb.
  • PHC reviewed canteen monthly financial report and found it to be in good order.
Canteen Managers Report:
  • Reyna has been appointed temporary canteen manager until Cora returns in approximately 15 Days
  • Kitchen sales and Bar sales decreased.
  • Bar inventory increased  and Kitchen inventory decreased from last month.
  • SSS was paid by the Quartermaster
  • Electric bill to be paid today

Membership Committee:
SVC gave the report. Life membership stands at 368, 8 new members, 32 continuous and 2 reinstated for a percentage of 96.93.    Annual members who have not paid yet please do so; the list of names is posted on the bulletin board.

Amerasian Scholarship Committee:
SVC Reported that they have their t-shirts For the Beach Bash. Only the VFW logo and the BB logo will be displayed on the Shirts given to the kids.

Buddy Poppy Chairman:
Chaplain Hommel reported P200 ($4.88) was collected for the Relief Fund.

Seam Squirrel Report:
2 new members were Initiated at this scratch.
Comrade Doty completed his 3rd degree and Comrade Gordon completed his 2nd degree.

Everything is ready for the Beach Bash. All Cooties Please wear your uniforms for the Grand Parade.

Building Committee:
Quartermaster has responded to the owner regarding the lease renewal.

Beach Bash:
SVC Hendricks reported that everything is ready to go.

Chaplain Hommel led the membership in reciting the National Home Prayer.

NEW BUSINESS

Adjutant Doty reported that the online registration form for the DPA convention in Pattaya, Thailand is now available on the department web site and on the Post 9876’s web site.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

It was reported that correspondence was received in an attempt to locate a Mike Vincent. The Service Officer reported that Mike Vincent passed away several years ago.

50/50 Raffle was won by Ralph (RC) Cox. P1400 ($34) was collected, P700 to Post Bldg Fund and P700 to the winner.

Chaplain Hommel gave the Closing Prayer.

Commander adjourned the meeting at 10:25. Next Regular meeting will be held at the Post Home at 10:00, Wednesday 12 Mar. 2008.
