VFW Post 11447: December 2009 Meeting Minutes

Post SVC called the meeting to order at 1000 on Wednesday, 9 December 2009.

There were 22 members in attendance and no guests.

Comrade Richmond gave the opening prayer.

SVC led attendees in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and Section 3 of the Congressional Charter.

The Roll Call was taken by Comrade Soper. All present except Commander Correll; Excused Service Officer Gerken-Excused.

Commander called for new recruits:
None

Commander called for distinguished guests:
Orville Humfleet, Grand Commander MOC Pacific Area

Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted:
The Minutes were sent out to all members with an e-mail address on file. Comrade Burnett made the motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Comrade Best. Approved

Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:
QM Burnett presented the report. Comrade Soper made the motion to accept the report as presented, seconded by Comrade Best. Carried. The report is on file at the Post home, if anyone wants to see the report, contact the Quartermaster.

Commander called for the Service Officer’s report:
Comrade Doty reported that Commander Correll is in the hospital, Comrade Brower is in need of funds to travel to the states. Comrade Alvarez has been admitted to the hospital and he stated that he is doing fine.

Commander called for the Surgeon's report:
Absent 

Commander asked if there was a member or family member in distress:
JB Bryson still not well. (Note: Since the meeting, JB, Rooster Wetzel, and Bob Creasy have joined Jose Alvarez at St Catherine’s Hospital in Angeles City.)

Commander called for Committee reports:

Membership Committee:
Adjutant Doty gave the report gave the report. Life membership stands at 371, 3 new members, 16 continuous and 3 reinstated Total 393 for a percentage of 94.93%.

QM reported we have one new transfer application. QM had an application for transfer of a life member from Washington State to our Post. Members name Peter J. Laserinko, former Navy member received Navy and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals for service during Desert Storm. QM made a motion for membership to accept for transfer to our Post the membership of Peter Laserinko. Motioned seconded and carried. We need 22 continuous members to renew to get us up to 100%.

PHC Report:
PHC-Chairman Rowell reported.
Meeting was called to order at 0900 8 Dec by Chairman Rowell. The following members were present:

Vice-Chairman PHC: Mike Best

Others Present: Canteen Manager Jhen Ellis, Carmen Hendricks, Dennis Doty, Bob Koeppen, and Bob Wright

Audits and Reviews:

  • PHC Member Bryon Rowell conducted Post canteen end of the month inventory on 30 November 2009.

  • Daily Draw chips were inventoried by Comrade Best and Comrade Rowell . All 479 chips are present and accounted for.

  • Canteen records and funds were in the process of being audited by the Trustees on 09 December 09.

  • PHC reviewed canteen monthly financial report and found it to be in good order.

  • Canteen Report

  • Other Business:
    • Will plan on having an end of the V restaurant at the end of the month for the canteen to include a horseshoe tournament.
    • All Members are welcome to attend the Monthly PHC meeting.

Amerasian Scholarship Committee:
Reported by Comrade Doty
The sponsorship list is up P300 per head please sign up. The annual Christmas party will be held 20 Dec following the field trip.

Buddy Poppy Chairman:
Comrade Richmond reported that P450 had been collected at the meeting and P140 at the bar.

Seam Squirrel Report:
Comrade Phillips Reported: Good Scratch. A good time was had at the CofA by all the members.

Web Master:
QM has updated website if any member notes any problems please contact Adjutant.

Building Committee:
We have a line on a 16 year lease for the Blue Danube

Beach Bash Committee:
Meeting scheduled for 11 December all is on schedule. Need to have volunteers for several tasks most notably solicitations.

Chaplain led the membership in reciting the National Home Prayer.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

SVC made a motion to close the Canteen 26 December due to continuing losses. Keeping the Canteen open is costing the post over P40,000 per month. Motion was seconded by Comrade Phillips and carried. SVC made a motion to close the Post home at the end of January after we close the canteen and find storage space for all of the VFW property. Motion was seconded by Comrade Sully and carried by a unanimous vote. Forthcoming meetings will be held in the Rock Lobster at Mangos.

SVC called for nomination for JVC, and Surgeons post, none were forthcoming.

SVC nominated Comrade Soper for PHC 1st year. Comrade Soper was elected

NEW BUSINESS
Following the Monthly General Meeting on 13 Jan. The Commander and all Officers to include Trustees will conduct the VFW Post 11447 INC. annual meeting. Post 11447 members are encourage to attend. Agenda will be available prior to the meeting.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

Thanks to all who supported the Marine Corps Ball Ceremony Event was very well attended and great fun was had by all.

Grand Commander Orville Humfleet said a few words about how he enjoys coming to Subic. He also donated a check for $900 to the Post ($300 to Scholarship Fund, $300 to the Post and $300 to PT 11). Thank you Orville.

Thank you to all the members who donated nearly $800 to Scholarship kids, Field Trip and Xmas Party

50/50 Raffle was won by Comrade Bill Smith P2200 was collected. P1100 to the winner, P1100 to the Post. Bill donated his share to the Field Trip. Thank you Bill.

Chaplain gave the Closing Prayer.

SVC adjourned the meeting at 11:05. Next regular meeting will be held at Mangos in the Rock Lobster at: 10:00 Wednesday 13 Jan 2010
