VFW Post 11447: August 2009 Meeting Minutes

Post Commander Correll called the meeting to order at 1000 on Wednesday, 10 August 2009.

There were 22 members in attendance and no guests.

Chaplain Richmond gave the opening prayer.

Commander Correll led attendees in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and Section 3 of the
Congressional Charter.

The Roll Call was taken by the Adjutant, PHC Member Culotta  absent.  PHC Member Rowell and Service Officer Gerken Excused.

Commander called for new recruits:
None

Commander called for distinguished guests:
None

Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted:
The Adjutant reported that they had been posted on the website and were sent to all members with an email address on file, and that one minor correction had been requested and made. The motion to accept as corrected was made by Comrade Correll. It was seconded by Trustee Koeppen. Carried

Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:
QM Burnett presented the report. Trustees conducted an audit of QM records on 12 Aug.  No discrepancies were found.  Comrade Doty made the motion to accept the report as presented, seconded by Comrade Best. Carried. The report is on file at the Post home, if anyone wants to see the Report, contact the Quartermaster.

The VA is staring to update your ratings you need to ask for an upgrade before they will give it to you. See the surgeon for help in this matter. 

Commander asked if there was a member or family member in distress:
Mike Trimble remains in poor condition at home with no visitors requested. Comrade Buzz Bronson still needs type A- blood for transfusions.

Commander called for Committee reports:

Membership Committee:
Adjutant Doty gave the report gave the report. Life membership stands at 369, 0 new members, 3 continuous and 2 reinstated Total 374 for a percentage of 90.34%.

PHC Report:
PHC member Best reported.
Meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM. by Chairman Rowell.  The following members were present: Commander Correll, Quartermaster: Burnett, PHC Chairman, Committee Members Best

Others Present: Canteen Manager Carmen Hendricks, Trustees Koeppen and Wright, Comrade Bronson, and Advocate Phillips.

Audits and Reviews:

  • PHC Members Culotta and Rowell conducted Post Canteen end of the month inventory on 31 July.

  • Daily Draw chips were inventoried by Mike Best on 31 July. All 480 chips were accounted for.

  • PHC reviewed canteen monthly financial report and found it to be in good order.

  • Canteen Report

  • Canteen prices are under review looking at a possible 10% increase on some of the items.

Buddy Poppy Chairman:
Chaplain reported that P925 had been collected at the bar and at the meeting.  

Seam Squirrel Report:
SS Phillips Reported: Another Good Scratch.  Looking at a social for the CofA and possibly a family barbecue.  We are looking for new members.

Web Master:
NTR

Building Committee:
Looking at Sully’s old place as a possible replacement for the post home.  If we can get a lease to own deal.  Also looking into the T-rose for a lease possibility.

C of A Committee:
Commander reported we have the mid term convention up coming in December at the Wild Orchid resort.  Dept Adjutant has approved and we are looking at getting everything in place and running.  Next convention will be mid June in Bangkok. There will be a Scratch on the 3rd of Dec.

Beach Bash Committee:
Beach Bash will be in the same location as last year.  All is on schedule  Deadlines are as follows Streamers 15 Dec.  Letters to parade Sponsors 31 Oct.  Shirts initial design Sep 30 Next meeting scheduled for Sept 8 1000 at Mangos.

Chaplain Richmond led the membership in reciting the National Home Prayer.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
SEC is done we are now a registered non profit organization.  We can legally own property.  Annual reports must be done yearly in January.  Failure to do so is why we got our SEC revoked last time.  

Commander called for nominations for SVC and JVC none provided

NEW BUSINESS
Commander Correll made a motion to extend our Fil/am raffle out for 9 months and  increase the number of tickets.  Motion was seconded by Comrade Best carried

QM Burnett had 2 new memberships to present to the members for approval. QM read the applications and qualifications.  He made the motion for the applications for membership to be approved. Motion was seconded and carried.

PHC member Best told of need to have web page updated Commander stated that Webmaster has been contacted and updates are taking place.

Trustee Koeppen brought up subject of purchasing 9/11 and POW/MIA Patches for sale by the post Motion was made by Comrade Koeppen and seconded. Carried.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

Comrade Rowe volunteered for new design of post shirt.  Accepted 

American Legion post raffles are for sale

Comrade Sully told us of new store selling Tsinelas for 300P next to the old Little Wheel American sizes

POW MIA day is September 19 go out and support the American legion activities on that day.

Comrade Sully suggested that we institute a sign up sheet for the DMDC event in Manila in order to coordinate rides amongst members who wish to go to Manila.

Commander is going to Manila for a recruiting visit to the USS George Washington.

50/50 Raffle was Conducted by Comrade Best . P2500 was collected. P1250 to the winner, P1250 to the Post. Comrade Alvarado donated his winnings to the general fund.

Chaplain Richmond gave the Closing Prayer.

Commander Correll adjourned the meeting at 1051. Next regular meeting will be held at the Post Home at: 10:00, Wednesday 9 September 2009
